Aircraft History Built by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation (LAC) in Burbank. Constructors Number 222-7655. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-38G-10-LO Lightning serial number 42-13221. Disassembled and shipped overseas to China Burma India (CBI). Wartime History Assigned to the 10th Air Force (10th AF), 51st Fighter Group (51st FG), 449th Fighter Squadron (449th FS). Assigned to pilot 2nd Lt. Thomas D. Harmon with crew chief TSgt C. W. Shaffer. Nicknamed "Little Butch II" with the nose art of a cartoon character of Harmon wearing a football uniform with "98" holding a right-facing white swastika in one hand and the other on the hip. The nickname was in honor of his girlfriend, Hollywood actress Elyse “Butch” Knox. The nose art was created by Walt Disney who Harmon met in Hollywood, California and is the Walt Disney character Peg Leg Pete wearing a University of Michigan football uniform with Harmon's number 98. In one hand is crushing a right-facing white swastika while the other hand is on his hip. This was his second plane with the nickname and nose art. The first was B-25D "Little Butch" 41-29964.
