Pilot Lt Paul V. Morriss (survived) Crashed September 5, 1943 MACR none Aircraft History Built by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation (LAC) in Burbank, California. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-38H-1-LO Lightning serial number 42-66556. Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia and reassembled. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 475th Fighter Group (475th FG) "Satan's Angels", 431st Fighter Squadron (431st FS) "Hades". No known nickname or nose art. Mission History On September 5, 1943 took off from 17 Mile Drome (Durand) near Port Moresby piloted by Lt Paul V. Morriss on a mission and bailed out in the vicinity of 30 Mile Drome (Rogers). Rescue Morriss landed unhurt and was later rescued by an Australian Army patrol.
