This aircraft operated from Fighter 2 (Kukum) on Guadalcanal and flew combat missions over the Solomon Islands. On March 29, 1943 took off from Fighter 2 (Kukum) piloted by 1st Lt. Sam Howie as one of eight P-38Gs led by Captain Thomas G. Lanphier, Jr. with eight F4U Corsairs from Marine Fighting Squadron 124 (VMF-124) on a fighter sweep over Shortland Harbor. Howie was flying as wingman for P-38G "Miss Virginia" 43-2264 pilot Lt. Robert Petit in the second flight of P-38Gs. Inbound, this P-38 experienced engine problems and aborted the mission flying back to base with one engine feathered. While landing, came in too fast and ran off the runway and caused damage. Afterwards, written off. The left outer wing was salvageable and used to repair P-38G "Daisy 2nd" Nose 125 damaged on the same mission. Ultimate fate of this aircraft is unknown, this P-38 was likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
