Pilot Captain Rowland D. Griffiths, O-406780 90th BG, 321st BS (MIA / KIA) Akron, OH MIA January 27, 1945 at 2:30pm MACR 13295 Aircraft History Built by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation (LAC) in Burbank. Constructors Number 422-3849. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-38J-15-LO Lightning serial number 43-28834. This aircraft had an aluminum finish. Disassembled and shipped overseas to the South West Pacific Area (SWPA) and reassembled. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force, 59th Service Group. No known noseart or nickname. When lost, V-1710-91-89 serial number 42-94101 and a-045176. Mission History On January 27, 1945 took off from Tacloban Airfield on a local flight and failed to return. Pilot Griffiths was declared Missing In Action (MIA). Search Afterwards, Air & Sea Rescue searched but made no signtings. Memorials Griffiths was officially declared dead on January 28, 1946.
