Crashed January 31, 1945
Built by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation (LAC) in Burbank. This aircraft had a natural aluminum finish. Delivered to the U. S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-38L-5-LO Lightning serial number 44-25427. Disassembled and shipped overseas to the South West Pacific Area (SWPA) and reassembled.
Assigned to 5th Air Force, 49th Fighter Group, 8th Fighter Squadron. No known nose art or nickname.
On January 31, 1945 took off from McGuire Airfield (San Jose Airfield) on Mindoro Island piloted by 2nd Lt Francis J. Hill on a mission and crashed near Batangas. When this aircraft failed to return it was officially listed as Missing In Action (MIA).
Hill was officially declared dead the day of the mission. He is memorialized at Manila American Cemetery on the tablets of the missing.
