Aircraft History
Built by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation (LAC) in Burbank. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) model and serial number unknown. Disassembled and shipped overseas to the South Pacific (SoPAC) and reassembled.

Wartime History
Assigned to the 13th Air Force (13th AF), 347th Fighter Group (347th FG). No known nickname or nose art.

Mission History
During the middle of 1943 took off from Segi Airfield (Seghe) and ditched 50' off the runway into the sea. The pilot was unhurt and swam ashore.

Wreckage
The wreck is intact, including propellers and canopy. The aircraft has little marine growth and is a popular for SCUBA divers. The 20mm cannon is still present. During the early 1970s, the four .50 caliber machine guns were removed by Charles Darby and exported to New Zeland.
