Aircraft History
Built by Bell in Buffalo, New York. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-39D-BE Airacobra serial number 41-6941. Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia and reassembled.

Wartime History
Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 8th Fighter Group (8th FG), 36th Fighter Squadron (36th FS). No known nickname or nose art. Possibly nicknamed "Miss Nemesis".

Mission History
On May 1, 1942 took off from 7 Mile Drome near Port Moresby piloted by 2nd Lt. Don McGee to intercept attacking A6M2 Zeros of the Tainan Kōkūtai. Diving down from higher altitude, he missed in his first firing pass, because he was unfamiliar with his gun site. On the tail of A6M2 Zero piloted by Arita, he fired again and hit it with a second burst that cause it to smoke and and crash in the jungle north of the airfield.

During the same air combat, this Airacobra was damaged by gunfire from other A6M2 Zeros and landed with heavy damage.

Wreckage
Afterwards, this Airacobra was converted to components for use as spare parts and mated with another damaged Airacobra to make repairs. Ultimate fate unknown likely written off or otherwise disappeared. Officially, written off on November 30, 1944.
