Pilot Lt. Robert G. Rose (survived) Motley County, TX Crash Landed June 6, 1942 MACR none Aircraft History Built by Bell in Buffalo, New York. Constructors Number 15B-6. On December 23, 1941 delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-39F-1-BE Airacobra serial number 41-7271. Disassembled as one of twelve Airacobras embarked as cargo aboard SS Hawaiian Merchant and shipped across the Pacific to Australia arriving February 22, 1942 then reassembled. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 35th Fighter Group (35th FG), 39th Fighter Squadron (39th FS). No known nickname or nose art. Mission History On June 6, 1942 took off from 12 Mile Drome near Port Moresby piloted by Lt. Robert G. Rose. Returning to land, suffered a landing accident at 12 Mile Drome and was written off.
