Aircraft History
Built by Bell in Buffalo, New York. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) model and serial number unknown. Likely, this aircraft was an early model P-39 Airacobra serial number unknown. Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia and reassembled.

Wartime History
Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF). Likely, assigned to the 8th Fighter Group (8th FG) or 35th Fighter Group (35th FG). No known nickname or nose art. No known nose number.

Mission History
This P-39 crashed near Galley Reach on Fairfax Station to the west of Port Moresby. Likely, the crash was during 1942 or 1943. The date and pilot are unknown.

Memorials
Until at least the late 1960s, the crash site of this Airacobra remained. The wreckage included the propeller with two blades unbent in the crash, 37mm cannon, landing gear and other pieces of wreckage.
