Pilot F/Sgt Gregory Carlisle Mogg, 412081 (survived) Mudgee, NSW Ditched May 13, 1944 Aircraft History Built by Curtiss in Buffalo, New York. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-40N-5-CU Warhawk serial number 42-104659. Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia and reassembled. Wartime History During July 1943 assigned to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as P-40N Kittyhawk serial number A29-434. Assigned to 2 Air Depot (2 AD. On September 13, 1943 assigned to No. 75 Squadron. On April 21, 1944 to 11 RSU and afterwards returned to the squadron. Mission History On May 13, 1944 took off from Cape Gloucester Airfield pilot F/Sgt Gregory Carlisle Mogg on a ferry flight bound for Tadji Airfield. En route, the engine stopped and Mogg ditched into the sea roughly 20 nautical miles northwest of Manam Island off Hansa Bay. He survived the ditching unhurt. Rescue On May 14, 1944, Mogg was spotted by a PBY Catalina and rescued. His only injury was a bad sun burn. Memorials On July 19, 1944 Mogg went Missing In Action (MIA). He is memorialized at Lae War Cemetery on the Lae Memorial on panel 6.
