On February 20, 1942 pilot P-40E Warhawk leading a formation of sixteen P-40E Warhawks an escort mission for A-24 Dive Bombers and LB-30s on a bombing mission against Japanese ships off Bali. Over the target, intercepted by A6M2 Zeros from the 3rd Kōkūtai. During engagement, his plane was hit by gunfire and crashed on Penida Island and Killed In Action (KIA) and his remains later recovered.
