Aircraft History Built by Republic at the Indiana Division of Republic Aviation in Evansville, IN. Constructor Number 252. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-47D-2-RA Thunderbolt serial number 42-22501. Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia and reassembled. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 348th Fighter Group (348th FG), 340th Fighter Squadron (340th FS) "Minutemen". No known nickname or nose art. Mission History On September 27, 1943 crashed during take off from 30-Mile Drome (Rogers) west of Port Moresby. Afterwards, written off and abandoned. Wreckage The wings, undercarriage and engine all existed until the mid 1990's when everything expect for the engine and propeller was scrapped.
