P-47D "Nancie-A" 42-28493 parked at Mangaldan Airfield on Luzon
This aircraft was assigned to pilot 1st Lt Walter Sweeney with crew chief Herb Rosen. Nicknamed "Nancie-A" on the left side of the cockpit with two Japanese flags indicating aerial victories claimed by Sweeney on October 14, 1944 over Manggar Airfield near Balikpapan on southeast Borneo. On February 20, 1945 pilot 1st Lt. Thomas C. Prizzia went Missing In Action (MIA) piloting this aircraft returning from a fighter sweep to Formosa (Taiwan) due to a loss of oil pressure.
