Aircraft History Built by Republic at Farmingdale, NY. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force as P-47D-16-RE Thunderbolt serial number 42-75908. Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia and reassembled. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 348th Fighter Group (348th FG), 342nd Fighter Squadron (342nd FS) "Scourgers". Assigned to pilot Neel Kearby who nicknamed this aircraft "Fiery Ginger III". Three other P-47D Thunderbolts were also nicknamed "Fiery Ginger" including: P-47D "Fiery Ginger" 42-8145 pilot 2nd Lt. Ernest R. Ness MIA October 22, 1943, P-47D "Fiery Ginger II" serial number and fate unknown and P-47D "Fiery Ginger IV" 42-22668 pilot Col. Neel E. Kearby MIA March 5, 1944. During December 1943, this aircraft was transfered to the 58th Fighter Group (58th FG). Ultimate fate unknown, likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
