Pilot Ensign Frederick T. Weber, O-083087 (rescued) Gunner ? Crashed February 2, 1942 Aircraft History Built by Douglas at El Segundo, CA. Constructors Number 687. Delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as SBD-2 Dauntless bureau number 2164. Wartime History Assigned to USS Enterprise (CV-6) to Bombing Squadron 6 (VB-6). Mission History On February 2, 1942 took off from USS Enterprise (CV-6) piloted by Ensign Frederick "Fred" T. Weber on a mission against Roi-Numour. Afterwards, rescued and returned to duty. Memorials On June 4, 1942 during the Battle of Midway pilot SBD-3 4682 pilot Lt(jg) Weber and gunner AOM3 Ernest L. Hilbert went Missing In Action (MIA). He earned the Navy Cross, posthumously and Purple Heart, posthumously. Both are memorialized at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl) on the courts of the missing, court 2.
