Location Antil Plains Airfield was located at Antil Plains near Townsville in Queensland in Australia. Also spelled Antill Plains incorrectly in some wartime accounts. Construction Built during early 1942 for use as a military airfield. Wartime History During early 1942, used by U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) B-26 Marauders and P-39 Airacobra and P-400 Airacobra. American units based at Antil Plains 22nd BG, 33rd BS (B-26) Ipswich arrives April 7, 1942–July 20, 1942 departs Woodstock 22nd BG, 408th BS (B-26) Ipswich arrives April 7, 1942–July 20, 1942 departs Woodstock 35th FG, 40th FS (P-39) April 1942–June 1, 1942 7 Mile returns August 1942– late Nov 42-early Dec 42 12 Mile Today Disused since the Pacific War.
