Wartime History
On February 25, 1942 arrives Brisbane.
On April 18, 1942 lost is B-26 40-1400 pilot Captain William A. Garnett (C.O. 33rd BS) shot down by two A6M2 Zeros from Tainan Kokutai (Tainan Air Group) with 2 POWs and 5 MIA.
On May 28, 1942 lost is B-26 40-1467 pilot 1st Lt. Spears R. Lanford (MIA) on a bombing mission against Lae Airifeld.
On November 2, 1942 lost is B-26 40-1493 pilot 1st Lt. Edward G. Gammon, Jr. force landed at 14 Mile Drome (Schwimmer).
On
January 6, 1943 lost is B-26 "Shittenengitten" 40-1404 pilot Captain George F. Kahle force landed at Turnbull Field (No. 3 Strip) near Milne Bay.
On January 7, 1943 lost is B-26 "Yeah!" 40-1421 pilot 1st Lt. Leonard T. Nicholson ditched Hercules Bay with 3 rescued and 4 missing.
On Sepember 10, 1943 lost is B-26 "Easy Pickin" 40-1368 shortly after take off and crash landed with six injured.
On
September 1, 1944 lost is B-24J "Ole Tomato" 42-100291 pilot 1st Lt Donald White ceashed near Davao on Mindanao.
On October 10, 1944 lost is B-24J 42-100206 pilot 2nd Lt. Joseph C. Tafaro ditched ditch in the Togian Islands (Togean) with the crew rescued by PBY Catalina.
On
February 28, 1944 eighteen B-24s from the 19th BG and 33rd BS took off from Charters Towers Airfield on a ferry flight bound for Nadzab Airfield. Lost is B-24J 42-100292 pilot 2nd Lt. George E. Nellis (MIA).
On March 23, 1945 the squadron flew a bombing mission against against Jitsugetsutan No. 1 power plant in northern Formosa (Taiwan). After bombing, shot down by anti-aircraft fire is B-24L "Tail Wind" 44-41652 pilot 1st Lt. James M. Focht (MIA).
On August 18, 1945 damaged is B-24J "Liberty Belle II" 44-41234 written off after an accident without injuries.
