Aircraft History Built by Consolidated at San Diego. Constructors Number 5170. This bomber had a an aluminum finish. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as B-24J-200-CO Liberator serial number 44-41234. Flown overseas via Hickam Field then across the Pacific to the South West Pacific Area (SWPA). Wartime History During October 1944, assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 22nd Bombardment Group (22nd BG), 33rd Bombardment Squadron (33rd BS). Nicknamed "Liberty Belle II" in block letters with the nose art of a woman with a large bell on the left side of the nose. This was the second bomber with this nickname but different nose art. The fist was B-24J "Liberty Belle 42-100206 ditched October 10, 1944. Assigned to crew chiefs Overstreet and Matthews. First mission was November 1, 1944. This bomber flew at least 79 combat missions over the Netherlands East Indies (NEI) and Philippines. On the left side of the nose was a scoreboard with four rows of black bomb markings. On August 18, 1945 written off after an accident without injuries. Ultimate fate unknown likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared. References Contribute
