Location Lake Boga Flying Boat Base was located at Lake Boga in Victoria in Australia. Also known as Lake Boga Seaplane Base. Construction By 1938, Lake Boga was noted as a potential site for flying boat activity by the Australian Government. After the March 3, 1942 Japanese air aid against Broome, the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) made inspections of both Lake Boga and Kangaroo Lake for development as seaplane bases with this location preferred. Wartime History By the middle of 1942, RAAF No. 1 RAAF Flying Boat Repair Depot was established at this location. On July 12, 1942 the first flying boat to land at this location was a Catalina from Rathmines to deliver stores and equipment. During August 1942, Catalina A24-17 became the the first flying boat serviced at Lake Boga. During World War II, a total of 416 flying boats or seaplanes were serviced at this location with work ranging from repair of operational damage to complete overhauls. Aircraft serviced at Lake Boga included PBY Catalinas, Dornier Do 24K-1, Martin Mariner, Supermarine Walrus, Kingfisher and Sunderland. Lake Boga Flying Boat Museum On the original site of the No.1 Flying Boat Repair Depot, stands an underground Communications Bunker which has been transformed into the Flying Boat Museum.
