Location Lat 26°22'0" Long 111°32'0" Ling Ling Airfield was located to the south of Lingling in Hunan Province in central China. Also known as Lingling or Yungchow. During World War II, Allied spelling was "Lingling". Wartime History In late March 1943 occupied by USAAF fighters that immediately go into action defending the area. On April 1, 1943 nine Japanese fighters are intercepted in the Lingling area by P-40's, claiming 7 shot down and one P-40 lost. On April 24, 13 P-40's intercept 25 fighters near Lingling and shoot down 5. On May 1, 17 P-40's intercept 30-40 fighters near Lingling and in a running battle to just N of Changsha claim at least 7 Zekes downed. One P-40 is shot down. On June 26, 1944, Japanese aircraft bomb Lingling Airfield. On Septmeber 4, 1944 six B-25s, with P-51 support, considerably damaging the town of Lingling. On September 5-10, B-25s attack targets of opportunity in the area.
