Location
Lat 23°45'0" Long 109°30'0"  Hengyang Airfield was located near Hengyang to the east of the Xiang River in the Zhuhui District of Hunan Province in south central China. Also known as Heng Yang Airfield and Bajialing Airfield.

Construction
Built during September 1929.

Wartime History
During the Pacific War, Hengyang Airfield was the largest airfield under Allied control in southern China along the Hengyang-Kweilin line. Used by the China Air Task Force (CATF) during June to August 1942 as a forward airfield for bombing missions against targets in the Yangtze Valley.

During the Defense of Hengyang (Battle of Hengyang) July-August 1945 the Japanese Army battled Chinese troops around Hengyang. On August 8, 1945, the city and Hengyang Airfield were surrendered to the Japanese. Afterwards, both were the target of American bombing and strafing missions.

Today
Hengyang Airport operated until 1995. The runway was 5,167' in length. Airport codes: IATA: HNY, ICAO. Replaced by the New Hengyang Nanyue Airport.
