Location Lat 6° 11' 0" Long 134° 7' 0" Taberfane Seaplane Base is located at Taberfane on the west coast of Tarangan Island in the Aru Islands (Aroe). Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Today located in Maluku Province in Indonesia. Wartime History During the Pacific War, the Japanese Navy established a seaplane base at this location operating F1M2 Pete and A6M2-N Rufe seaplanes. Starting in early May 1943, Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) began attacking the base. In response, the Japanese increased anti-aircraft defenses in the area but were unable to defend the airspace. By June 1943, the remaining aircraft were evacuated.
