Location Lat 6° 10' 60S Long 134° 5' 60E Taberfane is located on the west coast of Tarangan Island in the southwest corner of the Aru Island Group (Aroe). Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Today located in Maluku Province in Indonesia. Wartime History During the Pacific War, the Japanese Navy occupied Taberfane and established Taberfan Seaplane Base. Starting in early May 1943, Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) began attacking the base. In response, the Japanese increased anti-aircraft defenses in the area but were unable to defend the airspace.
