Location Moshinawa Airfield was located at Moshinawa (Machinato) inland from the western coast of Okinawa Island in Okinawa Prefecture in southern Japan. Located four miles north of Naha. During the Battle of Okinawa, spelled Machinato Airifled by the Americans. Also spelled Makinato, Matinato or Nachinato. Construction Built by the Japanese as a single runway measuring 6,500' x 100' parallel to the west coast. Wartime History On April 28, 1945 captured by the U.S. Army, 27th Infantry Divisoin, 165th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Battalion. Afterwards, repaired for use by American aircraft. Starting in lae July 1945 used by the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) until the end of the Pacific War. American units based at Machinato (Moshinawa) 319th BG, HQ (A-26) Kadena arrives July 21, 1945–? 319th BG, 437th BS (A-26) Kadena arrives July 21, 1945–December 8, 1945 departs USA 319th BG, 438th BS (A-26) Kadena arrives July 21, 1945–? 319th BG, 439th BS (A-26) Kadena arrives July 21, 1945–? 319th BG, 440th BS (A-26) Kadena arrives July 21, 1945–?
