Location Tokuno Airport was located on Tokunoshima (Tokuno) in the Amami Islands (Amami-Guntō) of Kagoshima Prefecture in Japan. Not to be confused with Tokunoshima Airport near Amagi that opened in 1962. Wartime History Used by the Japanese during the Pacific War as a military airfield until the surrender of Japan. American missions against Tokunoshima Airfield (Tokuno) June 1, 1945–July 29, 1945 Postwar On September 24, 1945 a team from 7th Air Air Force Combat Camera Unit (7th AAFCCU) including cameraman Carmichael visited Tokuno Airfield and recorded film footage of Japanese planes that were destroyed on the ground.
