U.S. Marine Pfc John Manoogian atop the left wing of a Japanese bomber overlooking wreckage of Japanese planes at Yontan Airfield on Okinawa
In the foreground, Pfc Manoogian of Detroit, Michigan is standing on the right wing of Japanese bomber likely a Ki-48 Lily. Beyond is a taxiway and in the distance is wreckage of Japanese aircraft including bombers and fighters plus abandoned equipment. Several of the wrecks appear to be partially disassembled. Others are complete aircraft. All were destroyed or abandoned at the airfield prior to the U.S. landing on April 1, 1945. Beyond at the left are American trucks and vehicles driving at the edge of the runway and taxiways. The photo overlay at the far right reads: "T/Sgt Chas. V. Corkran - - - With Div Public Relations - USMC MAG 31 [Marine Air Group 31]".
