Location Construction Wartime History Japanese Units based at Djindjin-Sime Airfield A surprise attack against the airfield on August 2, attacked at 7:25am by 23 x I-16 of 70th iap covered by 19 x I-15 led by Kap Y. Stepanov. Soviets repeatedly attacked firing 18,000 rounds and claimed 12 aircraft burning on the ground, plus four shot down attempting to take off, plus cars and stores at the airfield. A Ki-36 piloted by 15th Sentai C. O. Col Katsumi Abe, got airborne but was shot down. Next, on August 20, Soviet fighters were able to strafe Djindjin-Sume Airfield twice, in the late morning and afternoon. The raids left six Ki-27 and two engine bomber destroyed on the ground, plus two Ki-27 attempting to get airborne. After this raid, 64th Sentai had to depart due to losses suffered. On August 22, 22nd iap (Air Regiment) attacked Djindjin-Sume. On August 25, an air battle takes place near the airfield between 11 x I-16 and 13 x I-153 from 22nd iap fought a greater number of Japanese aircraft. The Soviets claim five victories and no losses. Japanese lost WO Eisaku Suzuki, bounced by I-153 and shot down 4 km south-east of Djindjin-Sume Airfield. Today References Contribute
