Location
Located near Nigesorimot, to the east of the Khalkhin Gol, east of Noro Heights.
Construction
After the Soviet August offensive that encircled Japanese forces, a forward airfield was established at this location and was used by the Soviets during the last weeks of the Battle of Khalkhin Gol / Nomonhan Incident.
Wartime History
On August 31, one iap (Air Regiment) was ferried to this airfield. JAAF aerial reconaissance confirmed the exisitance of this airfield.
Nomonhan, page 882:
“IJA artillery observers reported the existence of secret enemy fighter airstrip south of Nigesorimot on the left bank of the Holsten, eight kilometers east of Noro Heights. About 60 fighter planes were seen taking off and landing on the afternoon of [September] 12th, and engine testing had been heard recently in that area.”
Today
Abandoned since the battle, no obvious trace of the airfield remains.
Justin Taylan visited this area during August 2009:
"Henry Sakaida and I visited this area, but could find no obvious trace of the airfield, other than a flat area that was certainly large enough for an airfield in the general area. Tall grass hid any other details left on the ground.
