Location Lat 16° 42' 0" N Long 121° 41' 0" E Echague Airfield was located at an elevation of 206' / 62m to the west of Echague in Isabela Province on Luzon in the Philippines. Also know as Garrit Airfield. Construction Echague Airfield was built by the Japanese Army with two runways: Echague Airfield No. 1 Echague Airfield No. 2. Wartime History Starting in 1942 used by the Japanese Army Air Force (JAAF) as a military airfield with revetments for parked planes. Starting in late January 1945, targeted by American bombers and fighter until late May 1945. American missions against Echague January 29 - May 26, 1945 On June 14, 1945 at sunset, Ki-51 Sonia from 52nd Dokuritsu Chutai (52nd Independent Squadron) took off from Echague Airfield on a flight bound for Formosa (Taiwan). This was the last Japanese aircraft to take off from a Philippines airfield during World War II. At Echague Airfield, Allied Technical Intelligence Unit (ATIU) noted the wreckage of six Ki-43 Oscars, one Ki-61 Tony, three Ki-45 Nicks, six Ki-51 Sonias, one D34Y Judy, one Ki-46-III Dinah and one G4M2 Betty.
