Location Iba Airfield is located at an elevation of 11' above sea level to the west of Iba in Zambaless Province on Luzon in the Philippines. Also known as "Iba Field". Construction Built prewar by the U.S. Army with a single runway for for pursuit aircraft. American units based at Iba (Defense of Philippines) 24th PG, 3rd PS (P-40E) ? - December 9, 1941 Nichols Wartime History On December 8, 1941 Iba Field radar plots a formation of airplanes 75 miles offshore heading for Corregidor. By 11:30am B-17's and fighters that took off earlier land at Iba Field to refuel when radar locates another flight of Japanese aircraft 70 miles west of Lingayen Gulf. In the early afternoon, P-40s land when Japanese aircraft bomb and strafe the runway. By early 1942, occupied by Japanese forces. Unknown if used by the Japanese during their occupation of Luzon.
