Location Lat 13° 56' 0" N Long 121° 36' 0" E Located one mile southwest of Lucena to the north of Tayabas Bay. Before the airfield was built, this area was planted with coconut plams to the northwest and rice fields surrounded the rest of the area. To the south is the Manila Railroad main line. To the east is Highway 1 (Hwy 1) northward towards Manila. Construction Built prewar by the U.S. Army with two intersecting runways. One runway was oriented northeast to southwest measuring 2,640' x 330'. The second runway was oriented northwest to southeast measuing 2,640' x 330'. Both runways were grass surfaced with clay loam soil. Wartime History On December 27, 1941 occupied by the Japanese Army. During the Japanese occupation, the second runway was expanded to 3,936' in length. Occupied by the Japanese until late January 1945 when Filipino guerrillas captured the area. On April 6, 1945 Lucena Airfield was liberated by U.S. Army troops from the 11th Airborne Division, 188th Glider Infantry.
