Location Lat 13° 56' 5N Long 121° 36' 46E Located inland from the southern coast of Luzon. To the south is Tayabas Bay and Tayabas Point. Located twelve miles to the northwest is Mount Banáhao (Mt. Banahao), an extinct volcano. Prewar, known as Lucena Town, the largest town along Tayabas Bay. Today, known as Lucena City. Lucena is connected by the Manila Railroad main line and Highway 1 (Hwy 1) northward towards Manila. Wartime History On December 27, 1941 occupied by the Japanese Army. By late January 1945, Filipino guerillas managed to liberate Lucena ahead of American forces. American missions against Lucena January 13, 1945 On April 6, 1945, U.S. Army troops from the 11th Airborne Division, 188th Glider Infantry liberated Lucena. Today Lucena City is the capital city of Quezon Province. Lucena Airfield Built prewar to the southwest of Lucena.
