Location Mariveles Seaplane Base was located in Mariveles Harbor to the west of Mariveles at southern tip of the Bataan Peninsula in Bataan Province on Luzon in the Philippines. Construction A prewar seaplane ramp and quarantine station were built at this location. Used as a seaplane base by the US Navy. Borders the eastern end of Mariveles Airfield. Wartime History On January 5, 1942 Zeros strafe five U.S. Navy (USN) seaplanes from Patrol Wing 10 (Pat Wing 10) moored a semi-circle near the beach in Mariveles Harbor resulting in the loss of two SOC Seagulls, two OS2U Kingfishers and one J2F Duck. During early March 1942 the J2F Duck whose engine was above water was salvaged with block and tackle, patched and towed to the quarantine station and lifted onto Mariveles Airfield were it was put into a revetment for repairs and was made flyable by March 24. Occupied by the Japanese during April 10, 1942 until February 1945. It is unclear if Japanese aircraft used this as a seaplane base or operating area. During late 1944 or early 1945, a Japanese ship was sunk, the bow protruding above the sea as of January 25, 1945. References Contribute
