Port Moresby Air Raid December 14, 1942
Japanese night bombing mission over Port Moresby (Raid #93)
On December 14, 1942 shortly after midnight with a first quarter moon, G4M1 Betty under the command of LtCdr Shibata drops eleven 60kg bombs over Port Moresby without causing any damage.
At 14 Mile Drome (Schwimmer) pilot 2nd Lt. Richard I. Bong noted in his logbook "Experienced ack-ack shrapnel falling all around after bombing raid" from friendly anti-aircraft shells falling all around. This was the second air raid he experienced, the first was on November 24, 1942.
