Prewar and during the Pacific War part of the Territory of New Guinea. Today located in Tanir Rural LLG in Namatanai District of New Ireland Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Construction Built postwar during the 1970s as a single runway for light aircraft. Ashley Creighton adds: "I believe the runway has deteriorated to an extent that pilots refuse to fly there anymore. I am not sure who built it but i will ask some local people if they know anything." Today Boang Island Airport (Boang Airport) was used by light aircraft to provide aerial services to the Tanga Islands. Airport code: IATA: BOV. By the late 1990s the runway was disused. As of 2014, houses are built along both sides of the runway and the former runway appears not to be maintained. References Thanks to Ashley Creighton for additional information Contribute
