Wartime History
On March 9, 1942 occupied by the Japanese. Afterwards, Buka Passage was used as a forward base and repair facility a with moorings off Sohano Island. Used by the Japanese as a seaplane base during 1942 until the middle of 1944 by seaplanes including F1M2 Petes and E13A1 Jakes.
