Location Embi Airfield was located at Embi at the eastern end of the Dobodora. To the west is Urio and to the north is Borio (Boru). Beyond to the southwest are the Embi Lakes. Prewar and during the Pacific War known as the Northern District of the Territory of Papua. Today located in Oro Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Construction During 1943, the U.S. Army built four parallel runways at this location: Embi No. 1, Embi No. 2, Embi No. 3 and Embi No. 4. It is unclear if North Embi Airfield (Dobodura No. 12) was one of these four runways that were part of Embi Airfield or an entirely different airfield. Wartime History During 1943-1945 used by the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as a military airfield. Today Disused since the Pacific War. By the early 1970s, two of the runways were indicated as a landing ground not usable on maps. Today, there are many horseshoe shaped gun emplacements in the vicinity that are visible from the air. Frank Anderson recalls from 1970: "They were phosgene gas bombs rusted and some were weeping, I reported them to the Australian army who destroyed them by blowing holes in them with what I took to be shaped charges as the holes were nearly square. They were also large 1,000 lbs bombs. There were also plenty of H.E. bombs in the area." C-47 Skytrain Abandoned at Embi Contribute
