Location Lat 8° 48' 0S Long 148° 24' 0E Borio village is located to the south of the Samboga River and northeast of Embi Lakes, east of Horanda and Ulada. To the northwest is Dobodura. Also known as "Boru". Prewar and during the Pacific War located in Northern District (Northern Province) in the Territory of Papua. Today part of Oro Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Wartime History During the Battle of Buna and Gona, the U.S. Army built a road that connected Horanda to Borio and branched eastward to Cape Sudest on the coast and southeast to Embi and onward to Oro Bay. The U.S. Army built the Borio Airfield complex in the vicinity with five runways.
