Location Embi village is located to the southeast of Dobodura. To the west is Urio and to the north is Borio (Boru). Beyond to the southwest are the Embi Lakes. Prewar and during the Pacific War known as the Northern District of the Territory of Papua. Today located in Oro Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Wartime History On August 14, 1942 a group of civilian missionaries including: Miss, Brenchley, Miss Lashmar, Mr. Duffill, Mr. Anthony Gore, his son and wife Mrs. Gore were detained by Orokaiva people led by Embogi, a former Police Boy. The group turned over to the Japanese at Embi were interrogated and transported by truck to Buna. Possibly, Captain Austin and Father Holland were also present in this group, or were killed elsewhere or earlier. During early 1943, the U.S. Army built a road from Borio (Boru) to Embi and onward to Oro Bay. Also, the U.S. Army built Embi Airfield with four runways plus North Embi Airfield (Dobodura No. 12).
