Location Lindenhafen Seaplane Base was located in Linden Harbor (Linderhafen Harbor) on the southern coast of New Britain. To the east is Lindenhafen (Linderhaven) and to the west is the Amulus River with seaplanes operating in Linden Harbor (Linderhafen Harbor). Located roughly 10 miles to the west is Gasmata. Prewar and during the Pacific War part of the New Britain District in the Territory of New Guinea. Today located in West New Britain Province (WNB) in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Wartime History During early 1942, occupied by the Japanese. Used as a forward naval anchorage and a seaplane base with limited shore facilities. Used by the Japanese until early 1943 and abandoned by March 1943. American missions against Linderhafen March 18, 1943–October 13, 1943 E13A1 Jake Sunk upside down F1M2 Pete Sunk on the reef, broken up Unknown Twin Engine Aircraft This wreck is reportedly a 'twin engined seaplane wreck', sunk right the Lindenhafen jetty, where it was moored. Possibly an Aichi H9A1, a twin engined seaplane, only 31 were built. Rod Pearce adds: "Back in the 1960's, I had a friend who worked at the plantation there. He told me about a twin engined wreck there, that looked like a PBY Catalina and was completely intact. In 1974-5 an Australian bomb disposals crew blew it up, because bombs were aboard." Contribute
