| Location Lat 8° 20' 0" Long 126° 59' 0" Cape Chater Airfield was located near Cape Chater to the east of Lautem. Americans referred to this location as "Cape Chater Airfield". Prewar and during World War II part of Portuguese Timor. Still in use today as Abisu Airport in Lautem Municipality in the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste (East Timor). Construction Built by the Japanese sometime during the middle of 1943 to augment Lautem Airfield (Lautem West Airfield). Possibly, as only an emergency airfield. American aircraft repeatedly bombed this location during 1943-1944. Wartime History Used by the Japanese during the war. Occupied for the duration of the Pacific War.
