Location Haleiwa Field was located at Haleiwa (Hale'iwa) on Oahu in Hawaii in the United States. Construction Built prewar as a small secondary airstrip known as Haleiwa Emergency Airstrip. Wartime History On December 7, 1941 during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and Oahu unarmed B-1E 41-2429 landed at Haleiwa in an attempt to escape Japanese aircraft. While being armed and refueled, A6M2 Zeros strafed the airfield area. Several U.S. Army Air Force P-40 Warhawks managed to get airrborne incluind pilots George S. Welch and Ken Taylor who drove from Wheeler Field to Haleiwa and each claimed four planes shot down.
