Location
Camarillo Airport is located in Camarillo, Ventura County of California in the United States of America (USA). Also known as Oxnard AFB.
Construction
Built
in 1942 by the Bureau of Public Roads for light planes.
Wartime History
At the start of the Pacific War, Camarillo Airport was taken over by the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) and tasked
with protecting the Los Angeles area from enemy aerial attack. In July
1942 a P-38 Lightning squadron was assigned to the field. In
mid-1943 the field became a US Navy Auxiliary Air Station
with torpedo planes and drone aircraft. Used after the
war as a USAF base.
Today
On January 1, 1970, Oxnard AFB was closed and the base was deeded to civil authorities, being incorporated into Camarillo Airport.
