Location California is located in the Pacific Region on the west coast of the United States of America (USA). Borders Oregon to the north, Nevada to the east and Arizona to the southeast. Officially known as the State of California. To the south is international border with Mexico to the south. Borders the Pacific Ocean to the west. Wartime History California has many major Naval bases, barracks and airfields used during WWII. Three cities: San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego were gateways for millions of American servicemen on their way to or from the Pacific. San Diego County (County of San Diego) San Diego eighth largest city in the U.S. includes US Navy bases and embarkation point during World War II. Torrey Pines located at the northern edge of San Diego and La Jolla. Los Angeles County (County of Los Angeles) Los Angeles second largest city in the U.S. includes Los Angeles International Airport (LAX, Mines Field). Santa Monica borders Santa Monica Bay to the west of Los Angeles includes Santa Monica Airfield (Clover Field). San Pedro borders San Pedro Bay and includes the Port of San Pedro. Long Beach borders San Pedro Bay and borders San Pedro to the west. El Segundo borders the Pacific Ocean to the north is Los Angeles Airport Burbank located to the north of Los Angeles.
