MONDAY, 11 MAY 1942
POTUS: U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt orders the establishment of the Air Medal as a militay decoration for any
person who, while serving in any capacity in or with the Army, Navy, Marine
Corps, or Coast Guard after September 8, 1939 and distinguishes or has distinguished
himself by meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight.
China: In retaliation for the Doolittle raid, Japanese launch strong drive in Chekiang Province.
On Luzon, Japanese Army defeats guerrillas that took control of Tayug and in retribution, they burn the town and executed residents who were suspected as being sympathetic to the guerrillas.
USN: Damaged USS Neosho (AO-23) is scuttled after the Battle of the Coral Sea.
