MONDAY, 3 AUGUST 1942
ALASKA (11th AF): Three B-17s, two B-24s and single LB-30 fly a bombing
and photo reconnaissance mission to Tanaga and Kanaga and also bomb Kiska; four of the aircraft have mechanical trouble but all return.
SWPA (5th AF): P-400 Airacobras strafe Oivi and Kokoda. The 63d Bombardment Squadron
(Heavy), 43d Bombardment Group (Heavy), moves from Charleville to Torrens Creek with B-17s; first mission is August 14, 1942.
