AMERICAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS ALASKA (Eleventh Air Force): The Japanese reoccupy Attu. A special reconnaissance flown with Lieutenant General Simon
B. Buckner, Jr. covers Tanaga, Amchitka, and Kiska.
SOUTHWEST PACIFIC AREA (SWPA, Fifth Air Force): Overnight, B-17 Flying Fortresses from the 19th BG and 43rd BG bomb the harbor and shipping
off Buin-Faisi. Ditched is B-17E "Clown House" 41-9235 (crew rescued). Lost in a taxi accident is A-20A "Josephine" 40-082 at Charters Towers Airfield.
