CENTRAL PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS (Seventh Air Force) During the night of April 21-22, Funafuti Airfield is bombed twice by
Japanese planes. Two B-24's are destroyed and five others damaged.
SOUTH PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS (Thirteenth Air Force) HQ 42d Bombardment
Group (Medium) arrives in Fiji from the U.S. Lost are B-25D pilot Brunson (MIA, one rescued) and F-5 Lightning 42-12967 pilot 1st Lt. John A. Mancini (MIA).
SOUTHWEST PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS (Fifth Air Force) A-20s
and B-25s pound the Lababia-Duali area on Nassau Bay. Single B-17's bomb the Dobo and Nubia area, and strafe Ubili. Ditched is A-20A "Strawberry Roam" 40-173 (survived).
Qantas: Lost is S23 "Camilla' VH-ADU (MIA).
USN: USS Grenadier SS 210 damaged yesterday is scuttled off Penang at 06°30'N, 97°40'E. Her crew become Prisoners Of War (POWs).
USS Stingray (SS-186) mines waters off Wenchow, China. Dutch submarine O 21, despite presence of escort vessel, sinks Japanese army cargo ship Yamazato Maru in Malacca Straits, 03°28'N, 99°47'E.
