CBI: General Wheeler, CG SOS, is directed to take charge of U.S. portion of Assam Airfield project.

SOUTHWEST PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS (Fifth Air Force) B-24's and B-17's bomb Manokwari, Nabire, Kaimana, and Madang Airfield, and the Wewak-But area. B-25's hit the airfield at Gasmata. The 89th Bombardment Squadron (Dive), 3d Bombardment Group (Dive) with A-20's transfers from 3 Mile Drome (Kila) to Dobodura.

IJN: 6th Kure Special Naval Landing Force (6th Kure SNLF) lands 2,038 men and establish positions between Bairoko and Enogai and around Munda Airfield. Rear Admiral Minoru Ota commanding the 8th Combined Special Landing Force, assumes responsibility for defense of New Georgia.

USN: USS Gar (SS-206) sinks Japanese gunboat Aso Maru southeast of Cagayan Island, 09°09'N, 122°50'E.

USS Pogy (SS-266) damages Japanese transport Uyo Maru off Iwaki, Japan, 37°05'N, 141°06'E.

USS Wahoo (SS-238) sinks Takao Maru and Jimmu Maru off Kone Zaki northeastern Honshu, 38°57'N, 141°49'E.
