Location Lat 3° 35' 0" Long 133° 45' 0" Kaimana Airfield is located to the south of Utarom (Urarom) on the southern coast of western New Guinea. Borders Kaimana Bay. Known to the Allies as Urarom Airfield or Uratom Airfield for nearby Utarom (Urarom). Today known as Kaimana Airfield for nearby Kaimana to the east along Kaimana Bay. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Dutch New Guinea (DNG) in the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Today located in Kaimana Regency of West Papua Province in Indonesia. Construction After the Japanese occupied the area, they built a single runway parallel to the coastline at this location. The inland side had several taxiways and dispersal areas. A hill to the east of the airfield emplaced anti-aircraft guns. Wartime History Used by the Japanese as a military airfield. At the height of this airfield, 100 aviators were based here. During 1944, attacked by Allied aircraft. By late 1944, this airfield was one of the last Japanese airfields still operational in New Guinea until neutralized and bypassed. American missions against Utarom and Kaimana March 20, 1944–October 30, 1944 Today Still in use today as Kaimana Airport, classified as a small airport.
